Two health systems in New York and Connecticut are teaming up to create a seven-hospital system with combined revenues of $2.4 billion.
Health Quest Systems, a four-hospital system based in LaGrangeville, N.Y., and Western Connecticut Health Network, a three-hospital system based in Danbury, Conn., together expect to serve 1.5 million residents across their respective states. The new system would have 2,600 aligned physicians and more than 12,000 employees.
Pending regulatory approvals, the health systems say they expect to launch the new organization sometime next year.
Dr. John Murphy, president and CEO of Western Connecticut Health Network, would be CEO of the new organization and Robert Friedberg, president and CEO of Health Quest, would be its president. The not-for-profit health system’s board of directors would be comprised of eight members from Health Quest and eight members from Western Connecticut Health Network.
The systems wrote in a news release that the combined organization will be able to enhance quality, population health, accountable care, telehealth, medical education and the use of data analytics.
“The new network will help sustain our commitment to provide affordable, quality care people need at locations they can easily access,” Murphy said in a statement. “For our patients, it will mean greater access to specialists and treatment options — close to home. New programs and services will be introduced over time and new specialty physicians recruited to ensure that members of our community have necessary services and do not need to leave the area for healthcare.”
